Iva Kovač

Iva Kovač, a Vienna-based Croatian flutist specialising in contemporary music, is one of the founding members of ensemble N and a member of Platypus Ensemble. She studied flute at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Hansgeorg Schmeiser and graduated with honours. As part of the New Music area of specialisation, she worked with Eva Furrer, and as an Erasmus-student at the Paris Conservatory (CNSMDP), with Sophie Cherrier. Additionally, she studied Composition and Music Theory with Wolfgang Suppan and Dietmar Schermann. She regularly takes part in premières and has played, among others, with Ensemble Intercontemporain, the Black Page Orchestra, Schallfeld Ensemble, Ensemble Reconsil, Ensemble PHACE, Ensemble Kontrapunkte, and ensemble xx. jahrhundert. She has performed throughout and beyond Europe, in various concert halls (Vatroslav Lisinski Hall and The Croatian Music Institute in Zagreb, Musikverein and Konzerthaus in Vienna, Philharmonie de Paris, Westergasfabriek Amsterdam) and at various festivals (Music Biennale Zagreb, Warsaw Autumn, Wien Modern, Art Space @SNU in Seoul, Musica Polonica Nova). Her fascination with complex systems (which can often be found in contemporary music as well) and her enthusiasm for languages have led her to complement music with linguistics, which she is currently pursuing as a student and research assistant at the University of Vienna.
